The Consequences of a Sex Offense Conviction
If you are convicted of a sex crime in a Colorado state court, the state recognizes "indeterminate sentencing" on these crimes. This means every sentence is a potential life sentence. A Sex Offender Management Board sets terms and conditions of release, requiring convicted sex offenders to participate in sex offender therapy. Failure to participate can mean no release.
Even if sex offenders are released, they generally face a lifetime sex offender registration requirement. Failure to register has become a federal crime. But registration can make it difficult to find housing, a job or blend into the neighborhood.
